Let's go over the last few days, the Phillies were able to get the reigning American League Cy Younge award winner, a #1 pitcher, with a 3.14 era this year, averages giving up a homerun one every 15.2 innings, average 7 innings per start, and still has another opition year for us at a very affordable $9 million to join our pitching staff in exchange for Jason Donald (who we had no room for); Jason Knapp (what exactly has Knapp accomplished so far?); Lou Marson (good prospect, Johnny Bench? he is not, but a good everyday catcher potential) and Carlos Carrasco (who isn't Kyle Drabek).
I turn on WIP610, and it is nothing but complaining by so called Phillies fan that we didn't get Halloday. I gotta give my two cents to all those whining spoiled johnny come latelys bitching and moaning about the Phils. And want to know how I know you are new fans? You don't remember the crappy years!!! Do you remember trying to get excited about Ricky Frieken Botallico? Morandini? Stocker? Mark Leiter? Steve Jeltz? Billy McMillion? Kent Tekulve? Brogna at first? or Mike Lieberthal batting cleanup and Gregg Jefferies in the three slot? And now look at us, the Phillies, THE PHILLIES!!, For crying out loud...
(1) No we are not the New York Yankees, Boston Redsox, New York Mets,or any other team you want to compare us to. Do you want to know why we aren't them? ITS BECAUSE WE ARE THE WORLD CHAMPIONS AND THEY AREN'T. PERIOD.
(2) Lee is a #1 starter joining a staff with Cole Hamels (reigning World Series MVP who is finding his groove, and has proven big game success); JA Happ (another young left handed technician with speed, why did Toronto want him so bad? Because he can flat out pitch); Blanton (who is having one of the best years of his career, and playing above expectations); and soon to be Pedro Martinez (a 3 time Cy Younge award winner, coming in with a fresh arm, with post season success, and is notoriously famous for hot starts to a seaon).
(3) Why shouldn't we have traded 4 of the 6 best prospects in our system for Halloday? How did the Braves build their 10 straight post seasons? THEY DEVELOPED THEIR TOP PROSECTS. Glavine, Smoltz, Chipper, Andew, Lopez, Klesko, Justice and Wohlers. How did the Yankees win 3 in 4? THEY DEVELOPED THEIR TOP PROSPECTS. Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Petite, and Bernie. How are the Redsox successful? Pedroia, Pappelbon, Ellsbury, Varitek, who were all top guys in their system. Name the last time a defending World Champion traded their best power hitting prospect (Taylor); best pitching prospect (Drabek) and best all around player prospect (Brown) in exchange for 1A starter in Halloday as opposed to a 1B starter in Lee?? Especially considering the financial aspect. If you are wondering why talks with other teams are dead for Halladay? It's because the Blue Jays want too much stupid!
We have an outfield full of all stars. We have an infield with the guy who got to 200homeruns faster than anyone else in history, an MVP and having a terrible year and will end with 40 plus homeruns, 110 plus RBI's and hit .270; we have arguably one of the best all around players in baseball; we have a two time gold glove award winner and former MVP who is having a terrible year, but has been coming around and still will score 100 plus runs and 35 steals, and still playing gold glove calibur defense. And Ruiz isn't an all star, but he's a decent solid every day catcher. He doesn't cost too much money, he calls a good game and comes through with the occasional big hit. How many great catchers are left out there? Our bullpen is solid (even without Myers and Romero), Lidge is still one of the 3 best closers in baseball. We have a great park, a stacked minor league system, payroll is within reason, we got Utley and Howard locked up for the near future; we are the hottest team in baseball, with the most feared offensive lineup in the National League. JUST SHUT UP!! Right now we are in the middle of what could very well become a dynasty for, THE PHILLIES!!!! I am so tired of no one giving this front office credit, THEY ARE THE WORLD CHAMPS! They know more than you do... yeah even you Howard Eskin.
OCTOBER 19, 2009 - PHILLIES v. DODGERS

Standing outside of a very cold CBP, October 2009 at the NLCS, wearing a 2008 World Series Ring that belongs to my good friend Bruce, a 20 year employee of the Phils. Phils win 11-0!
Who should have been Januarys Graph of the Month?
As a Philly fan, where is your sports focus?
